About the event

The TRI COUNTY FAIR BOARD is proud to welcome Kansas native and former Green Beret Maj. Mark Nutsch to Herington for a presentation of “Whiskey and War Stories.”

Days after 9/11, America responded with a daring insertion of a Green Beret team into Afghanistan. They spearheaded unconventional warfare operations while mounted on horseback, fighting alongside their Afghan allies. Mark’s team became known as the “Horse Soldiers”, their exploits are portrayed in books and in the Hollywood blockbuster “12 Strong”. These brave men are honored today by the “America’s Response Monument” at Ground Zero in New York City.

Mark and his retired teammates joined up again as entrepreneurs to form American Freedom Distillery and produce their premium line of craft Horse Soldier Bourbons. Their award-winning spirits are bottled in custom glass forged by steel recovered from the World Trade Center to commemorate those lives lost but never forgotten.

At this most memorable event, Mark will present a tasting of the full line of multiple award-winning Horse Soldier Bourbons; experience a behind-the-scenes multi-media presentation sharing the insight to America’s response to 9/11 as well as the establishment of American Freedom Distillery.

The night will include appetizers before and after the tasting, tasting of award-winning Horse Soldier Bourbon selections with Mark providing insight to each of them. During the Whiskey and War Stories event, we will also have several items that will be live auctioned, as well as a cocktail or straight pour at the after-party, as well as maybe a few updates on future projects American Freedom Distillery has in the works.

Oh and your chance to meet Mark during the after-party!
