Fair History

The first Tri-County Free Fair (originally called Tri-County 4-H Fair) took place in September of 1948. The Chamber of Commerce raised roughly $10,000 in donations and used the money to purchase the 11 buildings that were moved from an Army airfield. The patrons and volunteers who put on the event didn't know whether it would be a hit or a flop, but it has continued to entertain Herington and tri-county residents ever since. Take a minute to read about all of the changes that have taken place over the years (link below), and how volunteers have made this exciting event what it is today.

To promote and showcase Dickinson, Marion, and Morris Counties' Agriculture, industry, and culture. To create an opportunity for commercial activity, and provide an educational and entertaining experience that is the pride of Dickinson, Marion, and Morris Counties.

Anything we can do to provide more involvement and a better experience for our young people will help develop our youth of Dickinson, Marion, and Morris Counties to excel wherever they go and whatever they do.
